railhouse one

The Railhouse was an investigation in low cost housing, undertaken during the late 90's. The structure sits on a corner site in Hamilton, New Zealand. It is the first of two individual investigations during the same period.

The home is clad in aluminium sheet metal, which warps and bubbles during the day as the temperature fluctuates creating an ever changing facade that reflects its surrounding environment.

The strong box form is split by a fibreglass atrium, running through the middle of the building, diffusing light into the internal spaces.
